According to the Office for National Statistics, 90% of single parents in the UK are women, and almost a quarter of households with children have a single parent. Nevertheless, every single mum’s story is unique, and while they may have lots of common ground with other single mum friends, their journey to where they are today is special. This path can be hard to explain to a young child—but luckily, that’s where children’s literature comes into its own, presenting grownup stories and emotional and moral quandaries to littl’uns in bright, accessible, and entertaining ways. Today I’m delighted to share with you 10 of my favourites for single mums.
